TRAPPIST PRESERVES are made and packed in New England by the Trappist monks of Saint Joseph's Abbey, located in Spencer, Massachusetts, as a part of a long tradition of excellence and hospitality. How Trappist Preserves Began...!!!

n the fall of 1954, a small, chance, stove-top batch of Mint Jelly was made by the Trappist monks who worked in the herb garden. At that time they had a great excess of mint on their hands. Since monastic austerity at that time precluded the jelly from being served to the monks at meals, it was sent down the hill to be sold at the Porter's Lodge. The response was highly encouraging. Other varieties of fruit and wine jellies and preserves were quickly tried, and soon there were hopes that jelly-making would prove to be a successful and compatible monastic industry which would contribute to the Trappist monks' self-support.
